Christian Appalachian Project - Over 1,200 families in Eastern Kentucky will enjoy a merrier Christmas this year thanks to help from the Christian Appalachian Project’s Christmas Basket Program. The Christian Appalachian Project recently held its annual Christmas basket distributions, handing out hundreds of presents to families in twelve Eastern Kentucky counties. The gifts came in from individuals all across America who make the program possible each year. The program matches needy families with donors who shop for the families, then ship their gifts to the Christian Appalachian Project's warehouse. Each family also receives a food voucher supplied by the Christian Appalachian Project.
"This program is not about what CAP is doing, it's about what donors from all over America are doing to help us extend a hand up to those in need," said Christian Appalachian Project President Bill Mills.
CAP's Outreach program hosted Christmas services and distributed the gifts to the participants of the program. The services focused on the meaning of Christmas and culminated with singing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. Afterwards refreshments were served at each location.
Participants and families were touched by the services and the generosity of people they have never met. "I am so thankful for this program," one young mother commented. "The service was beautiful today, and I don't know what I would do this year without the help. Well, Christmas would be like any other day without this kindness."
